Wedding at Shutters on the Beach

A few weekends ago we did a small destination wedding at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica. The couple actually met on the hotel's terrace, so wasn't it romantic that they flew in from New York to get married there with their closest friends and family in attendance?

The bride loves blue hydrangeas and lily of the valley. Unfortunately, the latter was out of season and quite costly, so to save some money we mixed the delicate flowers with white and parrot tulips. Blue hydrangeas decorated the cocktail tables and the horseshoe-shaped table during the brunch reception.

The beautiful custom-made chuppah stressed me out more than a little as its weight caused it to sag. The bride gave us the go ahead to make the footprint a little smaller. Even with the gusty beach breezes, it held up! (Those same beach breezes made a mess of the rose petals (that I had to sweep up).

Shutters is a beautiful hotel, but they're a little too enthusiastic about keeping the paint smudge-free. A painter walks around doing touch ups, including a door that I pushed open with my bottom right before he came to hang the "wet paint" sign! The beautiful wedding was worth a pair of ruined silk pants.

P.S. If you haven't noticed, I haven't been able to post regularly these past few weeks. We're starting a new business and it will probably preclude me from posting daily. You'll probably find a new post here every week!
